Herdwick sheep on castle mound
Plenty of mist in evidence today, but the sun did break through at mid-morning, and remained with us for an hour or more.
Here a dozen or so Herdwicks have come to a closed gate (visible at left) on a footpath and are climbing through the fence to access the castle mound. They like showing off their agility: the race was probably introduced by Norse settlers who settled over 1,000 years ago in the mountainous terrain of the Lake District, in Cumbria.
