Vimy Ridge
This photo should have appeared on 10th October but it won't let me (?). Anyway this was the last photo to match up on our mini-road trip in Belgium and France and it was relatively easy.
The weather was glorious and Vimy Ridge was hauntingly beautiful. The autumn sun pierced the tall for trees and hit the undulating grass below. We looked round the visitor centre and asked the girl on the desk if she knew where the photo had been taken. It was right behind the building!
My daughter came here on a school trip 15 years ago and she too has a photo taken in this very spot. Little did she know then that her great grandfather had stood there 36 years before.
Since posting the blip on 9th October I have found out that my grandfather's battalion had remained quiet throughout the winter and spring in Loos-en-Gohelle and in fact had only minor activities to record for nearly a year. So I think I am probably correct in thinking that his "What memories!" were good ones! :-)
