Beauty Unaware

Luisa, our old neighbour, in her kitchen, making us sweet black coffee, which she served with cream crackers, as she always used to - felt like nothing had changed, but of course, it has. For one, all her four girls have married and left home, and she has five grandsons. But a lot of tragedy as well, which she's finding it hard to come to terms with.

An extra of their side porch - because it's such a classic, with the Sertanejo leather hat, the carnaúba straw broom, and Ramiro's white wellies. Nothing in either photo has been altered in any way - it's the way it is - like an old painting, and yet the beauty unseen by most who live here.
