Remembering.

It may be Hallowe'en today, but there was a much more serious occasion afoot in Princes Street Gardens this morning, that of the inauguration of the Remembrance garden there.
We stumbled upon it when we were in town to buy train tickets for a sad family occasion in Kirkcaldy tomorrow, and watched as the flag bearers posed for their photograph on the steps of the Scott Monument.
It was a mild sunny morning with no wind to disturb the fallen leaves lying thickly between the crosses as though in a symbolic gesture.

The remembrance tree was already hung with messages from relatives of the fallen will continue to bloom with more and more names until Remembrance Sunday on the 13th of November.

This afternoon I am expecting my original friend of many talents ( I seem to have more than one at the moment) to come and visit. She is over from Ireland for a few days on official duties including a family visit. Although we have been in touch for lengthy telephone calls on a Monday, it will be just like old times to have her here in the flesh.
