The Basingstoke Canal
I was very fortunate to be there this morning as this narrow boat came through the lock.
I was speaking to someone that was to do with the the Basingstoke Canal Soc. He said this was the only boat going through today. Boats apparently need permission to go through there locks as the canal looses lots of water in the summer. They now have canal keepers that are there when the lock is opened so when it is closed after the boat has gone through uses a tool put slug from the river against the lock gate to help stop the water passing through the lock.
