Nicky and her Nikon

Durdle Door

Today was the landscape photography course run by Nikon Training. After breakfast I met the other candidates - including Sue - (58Daisies) - on the course - it was actually a Lee filters and landscape photography workshop, and so we started the morning by going through all the filters and which are best to use when. We had thick cloud cover all day with no hope of any light breaking through the skies, so we had to change some of our planned locations, which sadly meant excluding Corfe Castle.

We spent the morning at Swanage beach taking some long exposure images before going back to the hotel for lunch. After lunch we went to Kimmeridge which is a wonderful bay lying under a cliff face and the beach is full of large orange boulders which have dropped off the cliff. There are also some interesting rock shelves going in to the water (see extras). We then went to Durdle Door which is an iconic rock formation on this Jurassic Coast, and despite getting there quite late it was very busy with visitors. We took more long exposures images with the big and little stoppers. Shortly before we left some lovely light broke through the clouds (see extra) and by the time we climbed to the top back to the car park it was already after 6pm.

It was a very interesting day and I enjoyed the locations that we visited. Gavin and Thomas went to visit Corfe and then after lunch they played a round of golf at Wareham golf course which they enjoyed very much, and they did not have to pay as they were residents at the hotel.

I am now quite tired and my eye is still annoying me, it has been uncomfortable all day.
