Glasgow-built!

This is an internal girder in the old Tontine Hotel building in Trongate, Glasgow.

This is how engineering used to be done!

As you can see, the join is completely over-engineered. This is because there was no fancy ways of working out the exact requirements to ensure loads were held up. So what did they do? They made it like this and to last.

Fast forward 200 years to an estate home, or a new school or a new bridge. All fancily built with computers and designed to last...30 years? :(

Weather: cloudy; 11 degrees c; light jacket weather; nice day really warm feeling.
