Welcome to hell!

This is Chinoike Jigoku or Blood Pond Hell in Beppu. Beppu has different hot springs around the town known as the 8 'hells'. I arrived at lunchtime (after another trip on the amazingly comfortable and speedy Japanese bullet trains) and chose the hell that sounded the most different to visit. 

The water is about 78C and dissolves the red clay of the area which gives the water it's colour.
