Common Enchantments

Moonshine Arch

On Wednesday morning, my cousin and I started out as the sun was coming up (I really wish I had some extras left) and found that fog had settled over the Green River which was our destination for a visit to the Utah side of Dinosaur National Park.  But by the time we kept going around curves in the road, the fog lifted but I really like my photos of the fog and the mountains.   We actually got there before the park opened so we drove along the road to Josie Morris's cabin.  We hiked at the homestead into a box canyon, surrounded by walls of rock. No other person was there!  Talk about quiet and still.     We were very impressed with this amazing woman!  Here is some info on her.

After viewing the dinosaur bones at the visitor center, we returned to Vernal for lunch (as we had no clue where supper might be!), then headed north to the Flaming Gorge National Recreation area.  But along the way, being adventurous people, we drove to the area where we could hike to the Moonshine Arch..a very bumpy road in the middle of nowhere, and then a one mile uphill hike!  But it was really worth the time!  The arch was fantastic and I think I liked it better than the ones at Arches National Park.

Then we started out again, making two more stops for sightseeing at the Flaming Gorge and the Canyon of Lodore (which is located in Colorado but could not be accessed from the other areas we visited.)      Supper was potato chips and a soda..but we also ate some grapes.  Driving home in the dark, we had to be very careful as deer were crossing the road and we also so a huge elk standing at the edge.   By the time we arrived here, we were just ready for bed..a long 13 hour day but wonderful time spent together seeing the sights off the tourist season.
