Covehithe
Covehithe has a church, built within the ruins of a church and within the church within the church can be found a model of the church within the church. I'm glad we've got that clear. As it turns out, the original church was privately financed by William Yarmouth and his friends on a scale out of all proportion with the minimal local populace. Such was the scale of cost to maintain it, permission was granted to build the smaller present church using available materials from the first. The extra photo should give a flavour of the difference in scale between the needs of the village and William Yarmouth's munificence.
The children's capacity to study churches is somewhat limited, consequently they were keen to head to the beach and we did so along the muddy tracks through farmland and onto the heath, where the cliffs subsided to a sufficient extent to wheel the pushchair straight onto the sands.
The view is to the south, with Southwold and its pier on the horizon.
