Warts and all

I worked at home today. I like my own company in small doses; a day is about enough 'though, even with plenty of work to keep me busy. And I was  tired, I don't know why, so it was a good day not to get in the car.

I took a walk in the garden during the morning and found the last two apples hanging on the tree. One looks more like a cricket ball with a seam than an apple. They struck me as gnarled and beautiful, much nicer than the silly polished apples in a supermarket. Warts'n'all is a much better thing than faking it.

Scout was in and out about a hundred times, enjoying the mild weather. Poor Dylan could only stare out mournfully. I went to the gym in my lunch hour which was mercifully quiet. 

We had an email conversation about Secret Santa this afternoon. I made a plea for consumable presents only. I have had some dire secret santa presents down the years. The most insulting was a beginners guide to photography...

Home made butternut squash soup for lunch. I made some stilton toast to chuck in it.

Listening to a New York Jazz station on the internet tonight. One track had the lyrics

which was good to know.

Feeling like these apples tonight. A bit past it with too many knobbly bits, but at least authentic and colourful ...
