Perisher Sunrise
Looked out the window at 6.45ish and it was looking pretty good. Up and armed with camera I wander across to the base area. We're staying in the chalet style lodge, in the right middle, just 200m fort he lifts. Pretty cool, skied in and out today ;-)
So the day. 5cm of new snow, but, it was windblown which meant no snow in places, and a lot in others. We were on the lift at 9, finishes at 4, stopped a coffee and a quick lunch. We did A LOT of skiing. And, at risk of being branded a "turncoat", the skiing was really amazing. It wasn't just a little bit good, it was really good, definitely my best day of the season so far. And that was despite the weather closing in around 1, and the afternoon being mix of low vis, heavy snow, clearing sometimes.
It's been an interesting trip and to be honest an eye opener. The skiing rivals ours easily, in fact I really like the terrain at Perisher. The problem is, their snow isn't reliable. The hills aren't flat, many runs do have lots of vertical and are long, and the snow is really good (at the moment). The facilities are great, the people are really friendly, and in general the prices aren't unreasonable, day ticket costs aside. So, an interesting dilemma.
And then of course we peeled ourselves off the mountain skied to the lodge, put our ski boots in the drying room, Mike put on his slippers, and then we went to the bar.
That was a very good day, off to look at Thredbo tomorrow.
