Thank you Mr. Kelk.

Mr. Kelk was my English Literature teacher at Pudsey Grammar School. But he did more than make us love great books for he had a love for hills and mountains.

In 1947 he took a group of us in an old bus to climb the flat topped hill which you see in this pre dawn hill.
It is of course, as every Yorkshire tyke knows, Ingleborough. Not a giant at 2,372 feet. But full of limestone caves and character.

We climbed it in school shoes (we had no others)and gaberdine raincoats. But it inspired a love for hill which still endures 69 years later. Thank you long departed Mr. Kelk.

Ten minutes later the sun appeared. I am always amazed at how quickly it climbs above thehorizon.
