Time and tide
The timing of tide and sunset did not quite coincide as perfectly as I would have liked. As I arrived at Jack Scout, the tide was pushing up in Morecambe Bay and these two overlapping mudbanks were quickly losing their overlap. By the time the sun had set, both banks were under water. Had the tide been just a little later, the edges of the banks might have been illuminated with pink.
We can't have everything. It was still serenely beautiful watching the sun disappear behind the low fell inland of Humphrey Head. Such a warm evening, and the trisyllabic calls of the greenshanks were ringing from the water's edge, they are heading south now from their breeding grounds in the far north - a sign of the advancing summer. A week ago I was still listening to the screams of swifts, but there are none now, all have departed for Africa - the last summer visitors to arrive and the first to leave.
A year ago - a levitating Harry.
