GOING BACK MEMORY LANE
I SCANNED THIS WATER-COLOR PAINTING I DID YEARS AGO, NOW IT GOES INTO THE PHOTO-BOOK I AM MAKING.
THIS IS THE PLACE WHERE WE MOVED IN WHEN THE CHILDREN WERE 2 AND 3 YEARS OLD AND HAD PLENTY OF PLAY-MATES, THEY PLAYED OUT-SIDE FROM EARLY AGE ON AND ARRANGED ALL THE GAMES ETC. PLAYED IN A FIELD ACROSS THE STREET AND CAME HOME TOTALLY DIRTY. WOULD I ALLOW THIS NOW: PROBABLY NOT, BUT THE CHILDREN WERE ALL AGES AND TOOK CARE OF EACH OTHER. ONE OF THEM, MILAN, A VIOLINIST IN BRATISLAVA, WE VISITED A FEW YEARS AGO. I AM STILL IN CONTACT WITH THEM. THEY MADE A SPECIAL TRADITIONAL MEAL FOR US. IT WAS WONDERFUL TO SEE HIM AND HIS FAMILY AGAIN. BUT THEY HAD A HARD LIFE UNDER THE COMMUNISTS AND WERE ABLE TO COME TO GERMANY FOR A FEW YEARS AND PLAYED IN THE CITY ORCHESTRA. ONE YEAR THE WIFE AND CHILDREN WENT BACK TO SEE THE FAMILY, AND WERE NOT ALLOWED TO COME BACK TO GERMANY. SO THE HUSBAND LEFT AFTER HIS CONTRACT WAS OVER AND THEY MADE A GOOD LIFE FOR THEMSELVES AFTER ALL.
