Whipsnade Wildlife
We decided a day out today would make a good distraction from a fraught week of work. Whipsnade Zoo is not too far from us and it wasn't cold enough to worry too much about being outside, so that's where we headed.
We enjoyed a great wander around, it wasn't too busy and there is so much to see we didn't see it all. The weather stayed dry and we even had an ice cream before catching the sea lion show. We ducked inside the butterfly house for a bit of warmth before venturing over to see the elephants.
As we approached the elephant enclosure, Annie spotted an "escaped" butterfly on the ground. It was still alive (although needing heat desperately) and she was able to pick it up and cradle it in her hands. It wasn't moving much initially, but as she walked back the long trek to the butterfly house the more active it got as her hands warmed it. She was thanked by a keeper for returning it and it quickly flew off once back in its home climate.
A couple of extras including a very cute baby elephant.
