In search of the Orionids
We have some of the best chances of seeing the Orionid Meteor Shower tonight. It's a bi annual event caused when the earth passes the Halley's Comet's trail. I'm hoping for better luck later on tonight, but as I hadn't had much practice at astrophotography for a while, I have taken a number of test shots using the Olympus E-M5II set to Live Composite.
This setting allows you to build up sequential images, in camera, rather than the rather more laborious task of taking individual images and then combining them using programs like Star Trax or the functionality in Photoshop. It's almost like the old days of black and white film processing, when you expose the paper and the image appears in front of you in the bath of developing fluid. You can actually watch as the star trail builds up on the rear screen of the camera.
If anyone else is also trying to capture the show, why not tag your images with #Orionids and #Meteors so we can share how everyone got on.
