Tail of Two Dogs
For those of you who don't know...I volunteer with an organization called Paws On Parole. Basically we take 8 dogs out of Animal Services every 8 weeks. 6 of the dogs go to the inmates at our State Work Camp and 2 go to the female inmates at the County Jail. They are intensively trained in the skills necessary to pass the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizenship test and they are also spayed/neutered, microchipped and given all required vaccines. Today was this group's first of 2 'meet & greets', where perspective adopters get their first in-person look at the dog they are interested in. Often people bring their children and sometimes their own dog to meet the Paws dog. Since the inmates cannot come out to handle the dogs, we volunteers do that. This where my dog Tara came from...Here's that Story. Paws On Parole is now in it's 8th year. Hundreds of dogs have gotten adopted and given a second chances at life because of this program. And hundreds of spaces have been freed up in Animal Services, giving hundreds of more dogs chances to be adopted since our county sadly still has a Kill policy. They are working toward No Kill status, but not quickly enough for many animals. My blip today is indeed 'the Tail of Two Dogs'...The dog on the left is Wildcat, I handled her today and though two young women spent time with her, she was not adopted. Our second 'Meet&Greet' will be in two weeks. The dog on the right is my dog Tara. She was a Paws On Parole dog who I handled and adopted. I love her deeply!
