Mobile bruiser....
A bit of a rush this morning to get everything fed , nip down the road to borrow a telehandler from our friendly neighbourhood contractor and be back home by 9.30am ready for the mobile bruiser to start. This is a machine with a big hopper which feeds the barley between 2 big steel rollers under pressure to flatten the grain and break the outer skin. This is so the cattle can digest it otherwise it just passes through the gut and out the other end as whole barley , with no feed value !
We were also adding propcorn to preserve it for storage. This is an acid which stops the barley heating and getting mouldy. As some of the barley was up to 23% moisture it was getting ladled on at 10 litres a ton. If you happen to get a whiff up the nose it brings tears to the eyes.
By tonight we had done 90 + tons and used 900 odd litres of propcorn. Not a cheap hobby, but needs must.
