Penarth Pier

“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
Albert Einstein

An unexpected trip to Penarth today as K decides the weather is just too good to stay indoors and the lure of the sea beckons.  It's a favourite place for out of season trips to the seaside, inevitably combined with a coffee or lunch at one of the various cafes in the area.

We collect B en route and arrive about 11.30; it's dry and sunny intervals keep us warm.  I pause to get a few photos of the pier, as always, and K and B toddle off towards the pier.  As I look around I see a face from my past, probably 15 years since I've seen L, she smiles in recognition and we sort of catch up the years in between.  Life has changed much for her after the loss of her partner, and she has changed much in response - becoming a much travelled woman on her own.  She's "working" and introduces me to T, they are having a day out at the pier too, so we walk and talk.  We catch up with K and B, more greetings and catch up then go our separate ways.

A trip to Penarth is not complete without a visit to the chippy, so B and I share a tray before calling it a day and heading home.

Back home I have a visit from J, to chat for a while.  He liked my photobook, which I produced after a visit to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne in 2014.  Plenty to talk about and some similar experience of life, so never any "awkward silences".  K eventually decides to break us up and calls me to dinner, which I rarely refuse.

It's been an interesting day of being with "old" friends and new, but no two days are ever the same, and photos of the pier are different to any I've taken before.
