Martha-Mary Chapel

I was looking for some suitable Fall colours at lunch time today and the Grist Mill was mobbed by Leaf Peepers. Everywhere is a blaze of reds, oranges and yellows but you try finding a good location where there are no tourists, telegraph poles or power lines.

A walk around Hopbrook Marsh resulted in yet more ponds with trees so I ended up back near the Wayside Inn. This area was originally owned by Henry Ford and is a well know local landmark. The chapel has appeared in multiple films and is a favourite location for weddings.  Apparently it was built by boys from the Wayside Inn Boys' School run by Henry Ford when he owned the property. Wood for the chapel came from trees felled by the Hurricane of 1938. The building takes its name from the mothers of Henry Ford and his wife Clara Martha Bryant and Mary Litogot Ford so now you know.

The leaves are falling quickly this week and rain is forecast for the weekend so maybe just a day or two left of these stunning colours.
