Some of the veg. from the raised beds.
Yearning for a creditable result for the raised beds at the Railway Station, our group of seven , went along to harvest the crops from 4pm to about 5pm.
Weather close and one gentle shower!
It was unknown to me as to what we would dig out.
This was all an act of FAITH and some may think otherwise.
The purity of the produce was achieved without chemicals and no slugs appeared this time.
Thank God and Mother Nature and the Elements for all the good grown this time. So many people have had slugs.
I am a novice at this local food growing and am barely aware of the problem side of it and try to believe and hope all things work together for good, like it says in the New Testament.
There were a wonderful amount , maybe 20, of potatoes, that grew from the orignal Tesco chitted potatoes Paul dug into the earth in late March 2012.
Then the Snowball Turnips, produced this one I am holding and many in the earth are still coming along but at their own pace. The leaves from these can be stir-fried. in garlic butter, gently.
The shallots were inedible, and brown in colour .
Unclear why.
The beetroots were lovely and many are still growing and not ready for harvesting as yet.
All in all Jo and Patrick's raised bed produced some lovely results as well.
We both grew orange and yellow nasturtiums which provided colour.
I enjoyed some boiled potatoes and beetroot as part of my evening meal.
Plenty learnt, and thanks immensely to Colin for letting us move forward with this learning experience and Julie for teaching us about harvesting crops carefully and understanding ways to compost.
I hope to keep growing as the seasons unfold and that the Great Spirit and Mother Nature gives us support as we learn.
I now have some lettuce seeds germinating on the dining room window sill.
