The Arno - Pisa

Just as dirty as it is in Florence.

We have now been on 6 trains and every one of them has been late (Benito will be spinning in his grave). The first one this morning arrived 15 minutes late and by the tine it got to Pisa (a half hour journey) it was 45 minutes late. Quite an achievement!

The number of North Africans selling stuff (mainly umbrellas today due to the slightly damp air - but also Rolex watches for £10) was almost overpowering and My God, they do not take no for an answer and can get quite aggressive. I hate to think what it is like in the south of the country.

I can tell you that the tower is still leaning and No - SWMBO and I did not join the throngs trying to take pictures of each other looking like we were trying to hold it up. Neither did we (knowingly) stand directly in front of somebody trying to take a picture and Yes - I did refrain from shouting at the British man who did it to me, or punch the woman who stood on my foot to get high enough to put her camera up against my camera as I took a shot!!!!

We had a late lunch in the most splendid wee restaurant up an alley off one of the busiest streets.
The food was fantastic - as was the selection of local craft beers (I had a 70cl bottle of honey beer which turned out to be 9%).
If anyone is going to Pisa I can give directions.

Back as base and there was lovely rainbow and the most expensive (to buy) taxi I am ever likely to see ............ A Bentley estate! It will take a lot of fares to pay that off.

Todays small selection of pictures starts HERE
