Silver Sands of Morar

Sunday October 9th

Glenfinnan, Mallaig, Morar.

Beautiful start to the day,dry and bright, with a hint of warmth in the sun.
Headed westwards today for our first stop the Glenfinnan.
Despite having past this site a couple of times we have never stopped.
We parked at the monument car park and climbed the path which runs behind exhibition centre to the viewpoint which gave lovely views of the monument and down Loch Shiel. The light was lovely picking out all the warm autumn tones.
From here you also get super views of the Glenfinnan viaduct, which has featured in the Harry Potter films.
Deciding that we would like a closer of the viaduct we took a walk along the track that takes you right up to the viaduct and beyond. We even had the good fortune to see a train cross over the viaduct :-)
From here we headed further west to Mallaig.
The weather was so lovely and we were treated to beautiful views of Rhum and Eigg and over to Skye.
The Cullin ridge was looking splendid in the autumn sun.
Lunch was taken at the Garden Cafe in Mallaig, where I treated myself to some local prawns, lovely.
Maeve was even able to join us :-)
On the way back we took time to stop at the Silver Sands of Morar :-)
Beautiful day for a walk along this spectacular beach.
Again this is a first for us both.
Many years ago it featured in one of my favourite films Local Hero and I've always had a notion to have a wander along this beach and today I managed it :-)
My image shows our first sight of the beach and my extras are Glenfinnan Monument, Glenfinnan Viaduct -there were several Harry Potter fans at the visitor centre, colourful murals at Mallaig, further view of the beach.
