OilMan is well trained enough that he came to a complete stop and rolled down the window when he spotted this quail, who appeared to be calling our attention to the newly installed speed bumps. 

We have been waiting all day for the high winds and heavy rains which have been predicted for days. Not a drop has fallen today, despite some dark clouds which come and go.

I had a very interesting talk today with a cousin I have never met, who seems to have discovered through genetic testing that  25% of his genes are Ashkenazy Jewish. Naturally he was curious, since our lineage has always appeared to be100%l WASP. He has uncovered a fascinating story about a prize fighter, his grandmother and a ship which sailed from LeHarve to San Pedro. Needless to say, he has been making calls to distant relatives to see if they could shed any light on this well hidden family story. It would seem that the newly mapped DNA genome is revealing more than the innocence of previously convicted criminals. I wonder how many more skeletons will be found in the back of family closets?

The answers to the question I posed regarding Bob Dylan and the Nobel Prize for Literature have been thoughtful and entertaining. A star for everybody who weighed in. I spoke to our son yesterday who went to the "Oldchella" festival, an adjunct to the huge Coachella Music Festival, featuring the likes of the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and Neil Young and opened by Bob Dylan, who, according to Matt looked like the dead man in the black comedy "Weekend at Bernie's" propped up behind his piano. He then cracked me up with a perfect take-off on Dylan singing. I should probably mention that Matt was a Grateful Dead fan….
