Fall in the Streissguth Gardens
We are so fortunate to have this lovely garden on our almost daily walking route, I know I've blipped parts of it before, …..it’s up almost 400 steps from where we live, and at a point where a bit of a stop to look or wander is an excellent option. It began in 1972 when folks in the neighboring house purchased 2 undeveloped and neglected hillside lots and began to garden… In 1996 these 2 lots were donated to Seattle Parks and Recreation who also purchased the 3 lots to the south. The family continued to maintain it …in their 80s now, we often meet them there, but their son is the main manager. Paths were installed and it grew organically without formal planning..and volunteers work on it —the flowers change with the seasons and it’s always a delight!… It now covers an acre with 1/3 mile of trails, 1200 listed plants, and 50 feet of vertical change. I took this in a slight drizzle from the bottom almost to the top (about 90 steps) because I liked the fall vegetable garden on the bottom and the colorful vine on the garage and the sense of wildness to it all, in the middle of the city. From the top is a wonderful view of Lake Union (not so clear today tho) It was a bit soggy after the rains we’ve had, but none the worse for the BIG storm that never did materialize. Those weather people just can’t win!

Posting this early today as it's the last day for my weekly challenge, "gardens," and we're off to the Seattle Opera's production of Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel this afternoon. funny -I just looked at the website and there is still a notice to watch it for cancellations due to the storm.... people were certainly over prepared for this one.!
