The Woodchesters as autumn approaches
We had a lovely slow restful start to the day and then went to Rodborough Common for a walk with the intention of a visiting a village pub on the way home. The common was busy with walkers as usual many of whom had dogs with them. It overlooks the valley formed by the river running down to Stroud from Nailsworth, on the far side of which we could see the woodlands leading up to the cotswold escarpment and the Severn Vale beyond.
The view was beautiful with the colourful tones of autumn beginning to show. I've blipped this view which shows South Woodchester to the left and North Woodchester on the right with the church lying prominently in the valley. Helena spent time in the summer looking after Blossom, a delightful Bichon Frise dog, in a house on the edge of South Woodchester so it was interesting to look back over the landscape she had explored.
We knew the weather would be closing in so were glad to be there when the light was still reasonably bright, despite the low clouds. The colours looked amazing, so I have added an 'Extra photo' of a closer view of the woods between the two hamlets.
On the way home we drove along a tiny road following the side of the valley just below where we were standing to the old village pub at Kingscourt, which we enjoyed. We will return to sit out in there garden and relax with these views, although that may have to wait until next year now.
