Bird Dog
I took Sally to the vet today to get spayed.
I drove out to the south east side of the city, about an hour from home, to a low cost spay and neuter clinic recommended by the Humane Society. My cost?: Free.
I woke up at 5a, left by 6a, and got there around 7:15a. After I signed in, I waited for nearly an hour before being checked in. I was stuck sitting next to a woman who takes stray cats in for spay surgery, however, she won't take them to a shelter so they can maybe find a proper home. Instead, she lets them live in the streets and feeds them from her porch. It's sad and bothersome.
I waited another hour before Sally was called in for surgery. It was ridiculous to have to wait TWO hours for her to be checked in and then go in for surgery. Especially since, by the time I left, it was nearly 9:30a and the doctor hadn't even showed up yet.
The pick up time for this place is between 4:30 and 5:30p yet they close at 5:30p. Driving there, in traffic, after a snowstorm, is not what I felt like doing. I told them I'd come back early so I could get her at 4p. When I showed up at 3:15, they told me pick up wasn't until 4:30. I explained that I had an appointment and needed Sally ASAP (lies. I just didn't want to drive in traffic). No way was I waiting until 4:30 after the disorganization I experienced that morning. At 3:45, the girl went back and grabbed Sally and then spent nearly an hour and a half driving back home.
Here she is
It was a nightmarish experience and if I ever get another animal, I'm either having them spayed in another state at a low cost clinic that isn't disorganized, or I'm paying the extra money and going to a real vet.
A year ago today...Steve's birthday.
