The Scotsman Steps were built in 1899 linking the main entrance of the Scotsman newspaper office on North Bridge to Market Street below where the completed newspapers were loaded for distribution.  The paper has since relocated and five years ago the Steps were remodelled as a public work of art by Martin Creed. It had become an awful smelly passageway but now each of the 104 steps is covered with a beautiful coloured marble and everyone is different.
