Buddleia
I had been told that there were grebe and herons on a lake near the office. When I got there - nothing. No ducks, no swans and definitely no grebe or herons.
On the walk back I saw the Buddleia in bloom.
Buddleia is also known as the "Butterfly Bush" and are a bit like weeds to me. While they are easy to care for they really will grow anywhere and are very common on disused land especially if it is difficult land (they will grow through concrete and on brickwork); I spent a lot of time at our previous house trying to keep it under control.
They have bright vibrant colours and they act like a magnet to butterflies (and Hummingbirds in warmer countries).
One Buddleia can produce three million seeds a year, and one flower can produce an estimated forty thousand seeds. No wonder I struggled to keep them under control.
