Flower Friday FF14

Even though Belair is a National Park - it's not at all traditional.

In the very early days of the colony it was the Government Farm, and later, a summer retreat was built for the State Governor.  In addition to that it became a recreational park for the masses.

Most early settlers wanted a slice of home, and by and large, did not like nor wish to retain the bush.

Because of this there are several quite significant plantings of "exotic" trees within the Park.  They make the purists shudder, but they are very pretty particularly at this time of year.

Now we get to the point - for Flower Friday this week, I have chosen a flower of a tree that is very common in the northern hemisphere, and it's a tree very dear from my childhood.  Normally these flowers are high up in the canopy, and seen from a distance look like giant candles.  I am, of course, talking about the horse chestnut.

We were happy to go into the Park today to inspect a derelict old shed that is heritage listed.  Personally we think (oh, the heresy of it) it should be left to rot or bulldozed.  Basically it's a tin shed - a very large tin shed - a very large derelict tin shed (see extras)

Good excuse to get out into the sunshine.
