Helen Kelly

Today Aotearoa/New Zealand lost one of it's great Kiwis.

Helen Kelly was a tireless labour campaigner and the first female president of the Council of Trade Unions.

She fought to improve workplace safety for forestry workers, miners and, more recently when she developed cancer, she lobbied for medical marijuana.

This cartoon of Bogor the Woodsman and his hedgehog mate, done by Kiwi cartoonist and fellow Wellingtonian Burton Silver in the 1970s, illustrates these two issues very well and is my tribute to Helen.
