The Black Head by Robert Koenig
I went to an exhibition in Grimsby Minster (see extra) by a Polish artist and sculptor. The Black Head was made from wood chips carved off a piece of bog oak which was dug up from the Lincolnshire fens. The oak is at least 3000 years old. It came from an oak which fell in the Fens and was submerged in water for thousands of years. Oak survives well in water and turns black with age. The head represents the spirit of the Fens.
Several of the installations paid homage to the fishermen of Grimsby.
