Ancestors
One of the main reasons for coming to Gloucester was to visit the Family History and Archive Offices. I mention in my mono Monday blip of Roots that Ann has been compiling her family tree on her mother's side and she wanted to see if she could glean anything else.
It was fascinating going through the various microfiche of parish records hand written in the 1700s. On the screen here are the record of banns published in the parish of Bisley dating from 1780. Unfortunately it's a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack especially as it is unknown which parish her ancestors lived in, short of knowing it was somewhere in Gloucestershire, possibly Bisley, Oxton or Standish.
So a very interesting few hours; apparently ancestory.com has added more records since Ann last used the site a few years back so she'll probably have another look there, a service the local library supplies for free.
After a spot of lunch, and a coffee, in the Roots Cafe we went to the Gloucester Museum to have a mooch around.
