The adventures of Rubber Willy

It was 1965, I was 16 and a half years old and about to embark on a life in the Royal Air Force.
My best friend in South Shields, and in 1975 my best man, was Barry Thompson.
Before I left for a years Telegraphist training at RAF Cosford Barry gave me 'Rubber Willy', his name being Willy and he is a rubber (Eraser to our U.S.A. Friends).

Rubber Willy then commenced on a tour of the world which continued long after my RAF career finished in November 1978. He's looking a little the worse for wear but he is 47 years old!

I hadn't seen him since I was made redundant in March 2009 and cleared out my office at the front of the house but Dhylan found him in the attic along with all of my memorabilia stuff from my office.

From RAF Cosford he then accompanied me to RAF High Wycombe (which was then HQ Bomber Command) and:
RAF Masirah, Oman
RAF Seletar, Singapore,
Penang - This was a holiday, travelled from Singapore and back on the train.
RAF Boddington, Gloucester (three times!)
RAF Luqa, Malta
RAF Gan, Maldives - 3 day trip to Colombo, Sri Lanka, for dinghy racing.
RAF Rudloe Manor, Bath,
Riyadh and Jeddah 1981 - 1989 when I worked for Lockheed and the Saudi MoFA
While working with Nortel Networks he did short trips, 1-2 weeks at a time, to (all on business, these weren't holidays!):
San Francisco for 7 weeks (Brilliant place!)
Dallas (Not so brilliant but I did visit 'Southfork Ranch')
Cairo x 2
Abu Dhabi x 2
Dubai
Damascus
Beirut
Al-Khobar, Jeddah and Riyadh in one 3 week trip.

Marne-la-Vallee multiple times

We were scheduled to go to Tehran around 1997 but it was considered too dodgy for a Westerner at the time. Things don't change much do they!

Next trip he'll accompany me on will be my visit to Malta 26 September. I expect he'll enjoy that.
