Crab apples in the orchard

In the commercial apple orchard near our house, every tenth tree is a pollinator, a different variety. Some are crab apple trees, laden now with their late fruit. They are a couple of centimetres in diameter, and the branches are packed with fruit, reflecting I guess how well they produced blossom for pollination in spring.
