Bearded Iris

We were given a gift of this bulb when we moved in over a year ago.  I had forgotten the colour and was somehow expecting blue.  Yesterday I noticed a very pregnant bud and this morning found this, slightly drenched and already nibbled at, rich coloured bloom.  I know nothing about Irises, although for 25 years I held a trade stand at Floriade in Canberra, where they were used extensively to create the varying themes for their amazing floral displays.
Couldn't get my head around the MM theme for this week so will watch with interest.
