Give and take

The large community vegetable garden and orchard-for-the-next-generation near to where we live held its harvest celebration today.
 
A lot of people ate food prepared by a few people and a few people, who went hungry because the food had run out, stood in the kitchen doing the washing up.
 
This is not to do with 'bad people' but with organisation, communication and assumptions. I am now musing on what it is that makes volunteering successful or not.
