Clouds Above the Prairie

This afternoon there were at least three different types of clouds above High Prairie. We are having a break between rainstorms. Today was 65 degrees F, nearly 10 degrees warmer than yesterday.

It was a beautiful day for a hike on our property. We saw flocks of robins flying in and among the trees and bushes, a few scrub jays and hawks as well as tiny bushtits. The oaks trees were vivid shades of gold and russet, contrasting with the deep green of conifers. The tawny hills are a subtle backdrop to this brilliant display of color.

This area has seen nearly 2/3 of an inch of rain so far for October which is very unusual. This means fire season is virtually over for this year, and we were fortunate to have only a few fires this summer.
