Bayeux

Excellent day in Bayeaux - I have always wanted to see the Tapestry (it is actually embroidered, but let's not split hairs). It is an amazing survivor from the 11th century. And of course next Friday (the 14th) is the 950th anniversary of the battle it celebrates. Poor Harold .

Fortunately for the town the Germans had no major military presence in 1944, and the Allues knew it, so unlike Caen, Cherbourg and St Lo and other places it was not heavily bombed. So it's wonderful old centre survives intact. And it has a beautiful Cathedral.

I have been taking lots of pics with my camera, but for blipping have to rely on the handful taken on my phone. I liked the shopfront, and as these two gents did not move they are included for context.
