La vida de Annie

Mahon

Part of Mahon from the tower of the Ca'n Oliver building - you can just see the top of yesterday's tower on the horizon to the left, below and to the right of the little lump on the horizon which is the mountain. I had the tower to myself briefly, but was joined by a middleaged English couple, who had never been in the building before despite having a holiday home here for 30 years. They had no camera, not even a phone to take the view, and looked askance at my grownup one. I explained that I have a business here taking photos.
She: "Huh - I suppose you'll print off the ones you're taking and try to sell them."
Me: "Well, stranger things have happened. (Rummaging in bag) I'll give you my card."
She: "Oh! No no no no! We have lots of pictures we've taken. We don't even look at them anymore."
Me: "Well I have been asked for artworks to decorate the walls of villas here."
She: "Oh, no. I just brought out a canvas print I bought in The Range. They're really reasonable there and everyone says how nice it is. It's a black and white picture of a beach with a fence along it."
Me: "Ah...."

Now I see where I'm missing the market. Must go along to Es Grau and take a picture of the now-deserted golden sands with a handcrafted fence along the dunes behind it. And turn it black and white. Maybe The Range will commission it - fat chance.
