Light Night
Whilst Sharon headed off to a camera club competition, I (Tim) went into Leeds to have a look at Light Night.
Conditions were tremendously difficult for photography - it was heaving with people, and ISOs were extremely high just to get a sharp image.
I started off up at the arena and Queen's Square where there were some fire installations. The people of Leeds are obviously not as safety conscious as those of Harrogate. The recent Cie Carabosse event was somewhere you could get right up close to the flaming hot things - here in Leeds there was a fence about three miles (maybe I exaggerate) from the exhibits.
From there I went down to Millenium Square to watch the projections onto the civic hall. I couldn't get in at the first attempt as there were so many people so I opted for the museum where there was an art installation based around lit up strings that could be plucked to make sounds. Manual focus, long shutter speed, point, move, click (second extra).
In front of the town hall and library were some illuminated drummers (first extra - excellent) and a fire juggling show (awesome, but couldn't get close for people most of the time!)
Other interesting things to see included some ice sculptures and stained glass. A fun, if busy, evening.
On the club competition side we did well with Tim getting a second for his daisy, and a highly commended in photo panel for some doors from Malta. Sharon got third in the photo panel with some firework kaleidoscopes.
