Just Turkeys

This weekend is our Canadian Thanksgiving.  Our Thanksgiving was based upon the safe arrival of the explorer, Martin Frobisher, in 1578.  Later, another explorer, Samuel de Champlain, and the French settlers who made the voyage with him to the new country, held a Thanksgiving with their First Nations' friends (in 1604).  This was the first time that a great feast was enjoyed to celebrate and give thanks. Growing up, I was used to celebrating Thanksgiving for a bountiful harvest as I lived in a rural community.

I am always fascinated by evolving customs and traditions.  At my school, we are establishing many traditions and I am fortunate to work with a team of educators who have plenty of enthusiasm and spirit to ensure the longevity of such traditions!  Our wonderful kindergarten team made these pumpkin turkeys (with much cuter faces!) to take home for the holiday as well as 100 'treat' bags for families who will be at Sick Kids' Hospital for the holiday.
