Walmer, Kent. The plinth marks the spot (give or take a hundred yards) where Julius Caesar camped out for his first night in Britain. 26th August 55BC. The English Channel is just beyond the block of flats. Caesar came to sort us Brits out, staying for several months. Came back again in 54BC, only this time for a couple of weeks.
Trouble in Rome , so he went there to sort them out, only to be assassinated.
Before he passed away, Caesar generously donated the best one-liner in film for Kenneth Williams in Carry On Cleo.
