Edge of the World
'E' is for Edge! ;-)
R jr and I joined our sweet little A, her Mom and her Brother, going up
the Swiss and South African certified cableway,to the top of the Magaliesberg Mountain and enjoy a 360 degree view of the area. We had such a great time and I took zillions of great pics, I could even take a good picture of the Coca Cola Dome in Johannesburg, more than 50km from here and a lovely, clear photo of our house, about 5km from the mountain! Wish I could show you all of them, but I think this one of R jr and A is sooooo sweet! Standing on the edge of the world, staring into eternity!
The cableway was closed for approximately eight years. It has undergone a complete facelift and state of the art equipment has been used by the new owners to ensure that visitors can enjoy a safe and pleasant ride on Africa's longest monorail The system has been tried and tested and used in concepts worldwide. The computer system is driven by Siemens-based software and continuous checks are done at milli-second intervals.
The building at the entrance was designed in old station style and even boasts a museum where some of the old parts and equipment used in the former system can be seen. The owners have also kept one of the old fibreglass cars and a service car made of wire. The restaurant and gift shop area are at the bottom.
An adventure centre is also being completed where bookings for paragliding and absailing can be made and a conference centre for special occasions and celebrations including wine tastings is also being completed, there is a restaurant on the mountain top for memorable dining.
