The Glorious Twelfth

Last night we decided that we wanted to go for a walk by the seaside. We checked the tide times at West Kirby and they were ideal for a walk across the sands to Hilbre island.

We took a detour en route to Flint, a little town in north Wales, and home to Jade "The Headhunter" Jones our gold medal winning Taekwondo star. There were a steady stream of people, young and old, having their photograph taken next to her golden post box. The most common phrase we heard was "Well, you just have to, don't you?" Flint's other famous sporting hero is Ian Rush.

It started to rain while we were in Flint and rained all the way to West Kirby. However by the time we stepped on to the sand the rain stopped. There were hundreds of other people who had the same idea and who had not been put off by the weather. A long crocodile of people walked out to Little Eye, Middle Eye and then on to Hilbre.

We were rewarded with a sighting of hundreds of Atlantic Grey Seals out on the sandbar with a few putting on a great show close in to the shore.

The sun shone as we sat and ate our picnic before heading back to West Kirby and an ice cream.
