Turnstone(Arenaria interpres)
I love these cheeky, noisy, inquisitive waders, the Turnstone are the entertainers of the beach bird world. They run about, calling loudly flicking over stones, pebbles and every bit of beach detritus to see if there is something they can eat underneath. They also like climbing on to the tops of rocks, like this one, investigating every crevice and also having a good look around from a higher vantage point. This bird has not yet got the bolder chestnut, black and white piebald look, but it does have the bright orange legs of the fully grown adult. In flight they are very distinctive with their black, with white patches and wingbars. A lovely sight to watch and as I've done the ironing I can stay and watch them a bit longer!
