Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2016 Monday -- Pulling Away

This is never a delightful moment -- saying goodbye to the little house with the big view. We've had such a lovely relaxing weekend with crisp autumn weather; we are very grateful for time spent here and look forward to the day when we live here permanently -- a few years off in the distance.

So we woke-up this morning to pack the few things we'll take with us, mostly refrigerator items that we'll put in the ice chest . . . we have four jars of Stephanie's soup and some delicious farmers market veggies. We made the bed, scrubbed toilets, closed windows tight and locked them, and made sure the window coverings were in place. I took photos of the inside of the pantry and inside of the refrigerator so I remember what foods we have for the next time we are here.

We put leashes on the three pups, who are all extremely aware that there's unusual commotion in the house this morning, and took them to their beds in the car and hooked them to their safety harnesses.

As the clock neared 9:00 a.m., our checklist was just about completed. And so we're off and gone. We'll make a quick stop at the library to return videos and books, and then to the Highway 1 on-ramp. Approximately 4 hours of driving will deliver us to the land of responsibility: alarm clocks, papers to grade, and classes to teach. This also means a paycheck, which I am very thankful for.

So, 10 sleeps in SoCal and then we'll return to this lavender house.
