VALYIE ON UNST, SHETLAND

An early start for the ferry to Unst this morning on the search for Little Bunting. After Mealy Redpolls, a Redwing, Blackcaps, Common Rosefinch, Goldcrest and a Merlin which nearly took my head off, we eventually saw them. Hurrah.

Late afternoon we took the ferry back to Yell; ferry from Yell to Toft on the Mainland; bumped into Ian from back home in Tesco who had just got off the plane from Fair Isle on his way back to Yorkshire. A very good birding day; unbelievable weather, windy but sunny all day; and after 3 stops at island shops, then Tesco, then our nearest shop, G eventually found what seemed to be the last remaining daily newspaper (of his choice) on Shetland.  A happy evening then ........

My extra had to be the wonderful bus shelter on Unst, a World theme this visit.
