Enjoying The Autumn Sunshine
This area is New Square. It is bordered on three sides by rows of terraced houses, built in 1830. It links the Grafton and the city shopping centres and is used a lot as a meeting place for students and somewhere to rest when loaded with shopping. Today, people were making the most of the lovely weather. The area was used as a car park until 1979. but some of our councillors fought hard for it to be returned to grass, especially now there are several purpose built car parks. I lived quite near here as a child and learnt to turn somersaults on the railings in the foreground. Looking at the height of them now, I must have been about 7 or 8 years old.
